An Always Busy & Popular Location
The American Hotel once stood at the
Corner of Columbus and North Street,
directly across from Sottile Park.
The above crowd had gathered to see Rough Rider, Teddy Roosevelt, who came "stumping" through
Pittsfield for his presidential election. During this trip, one of his body guards was killed in an automobile
accident on South Street near the Pittsfield Country Club. Roosevelt was famous for his inspiring wisdoms. He
valued EFFORT, SELF-RELIANCE, and INTEGRITY.
